The Children's Society is a national charity driven by the belief that every child deserves a good childhood. To that end it provides vital help and understanding for those children who face the greatest danger, discrimination or disadvantage; children who are unable to find the support they need anywhere else. They unveiled the UK’s first billboard made entirely out of flowers in celebration of their garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2008 and their ongoing investigation into the state of childhood in the UK. Carrying the charity’s strap line, ‘Making Childhood Better’, the floral 20ft x 10ft ‘flowertising’ billboard is made up of 4,000 fresh roses, 1,500 fresh carnations and 1,000 chrysanthemums; contains over 102,000 petals; took over 288 hours to create and two hours to construct on site. The billboard wants to communicate that every child deserves a good childhood and that green space can play an important part in achieving this. A beautiful eye-catching surprise, reminding that summer is on its way!

Chess Ace

Ace is a whitening product for clothes. In this ad done in Turkey we see a chess game of "stains" against white clean clothes! Looks like white wins, as the copy also tells us. Sure is a different way to show a product like this, although I'm not very sure rather I like it or not :-/ I believe it is on the border line between well done and "forced".

I loved the art direction and the simple idea hidden in these Matchbox ads. What could be more direct than this? Kids that play with miniature model cars, imagine that they actually drive them. A nice "easy to get" campaign, without needed to use any text except the logo.

Kids watch and do exactly what grown ups do. This is the meaning of this anti-smoking campaign, that I find so correct! The copy seems plenty, but it's worth reading it, for understanding the children's point of view about this topic. Illustrations look beautiful and so does the whole concept. I liked it alot.

Wild ride

An Ad made in Mexico for Jeep. It was done to promote the Jeep camp, where test rides were taking place in real nature conditions. It took me a while to understand though that the three parrots represent the three colors of the traffic lights! Nice thinking but it looks a bit "hard to get" in my opinion... and without the explanation above, maybe it did need a test-ride text after all.

Shackleton in Spain is becoming one of my favourites :-) I love their humor that is very well combined with a good dose of creativity. In this ad, we see all the truth about Star Trek (I admit I am a big fan of that TV serial) and how it all began. It seems as Mr Spock didn't always have those long ears. I really wonder why didn't I become a Vulcan too, after all these "non studying" years in school... probably it doesn't happen to all naughty boys! Keep it up guys, it's always nice making us laugh. :-)

A big step for man kind...

When it comes to condom ads, you just don't know what to expect anymore. Most of them are done a dozen of times. The "extra large" theme done in this ad is never shown I believe in this specific way... By placing in the ad a third middle shoe, they emphasize on the "King Size" mentioned in the copy. I guess it's easy to say what the "third foot" really is... Elephantiasis maybe? ;-/

A very nice campaign for Holme Gaard Mouthblown Glass creations. The visuals in these ads show the glass, exactly the way they should, as mouthblown! The concept's result is very simple and beautiful. I don't really believe it is an easy idea, even if it can cross your mind after seeing it. A light and minimal sample of good advertising made in Denmark.

How good can it be to show 3 different type of knock-outs to advertise a sleeping pill product? I really wonder! I thought it it supposed to relax you and feel calm, making you sleep peacefully (that should be its strong advantage). Communicating it as a big-bang on your head, just doesn't feel right... that is what can make you wake up with an awful headache I guess. Hm... am I wrong? I understand the point here is the "instantly sleeping" method, but still, doesn't really convince me :-/ I like the illustrations and the direction though and maybe it does work for some of you after all.... who knows? ;-)

Mainlands or Islands?

Siju from India sent this campaign in. Not quite a "new" way of thinking I might say, as the first thing that comes to your mind after thinking "global warming" is a sinked landscape! I believe this topic is already overdone, as I can recall several showing the statue of liberty under water! "Stop global warming. Save the world from becoming an island" is what the copy on this campaign claims, showing all five mainlands of our planet, turned into Islands... I will ask now... why 5 almost same island images? it seems meaningless. I mean take these 5 images and switch them, using the copy from the other ads... any difference? Should use at least some of the mainland's characteristics to make them more unique. But I do admit, it does look interesting :-)

Berlitz foreign language school has always communicated with brilliant campaigns in the past (as much as I can recall). Here is a different way of doing it by DDB in Germany... Using beautiful visuals of barriers made by the language word and showing people behind them in the cultural country's way (France, Sweden and China) they incite us to "break the language barrier" as the copy claims, and move on to another level of language learning, by entering their country (probably from the sea side) ;-)
I loved the art style these ads are made of. The "plant" detail in all three of them is a plus in my opinion. I believe they look emotional enough as they should.

Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the drunkest of them all?

Lowe Bull in South Africa, created a "propaganda" poster for Russian Bear Vodka that was placed on the walls facing bathroom mirrors in pubs and clubs. At first glance, the writing appeared to be in Cyrillic Alphabet (probably meaning nothing), but when looked at through the mirror, the letters reversed to read in plain English: Real "Men Don't Drink and Drive." A nice sort of a mirror game, that can surprise somebody when first seen, probably making him think he drank too much ;-)

This is something I don't remember seeing before. Looks like a "one of a kind" car model campaign. It might look a bit hard to get at first, but if you take a couple of minutes you will understand what it's all about. The ads shown here are simply talking about "fast reaction", comparing it of course to the Peugeot 207 car. Making these animals scared, has a result of fast acceleration. It might also look a bit cruel, but despite that, it can seem funny. The ads work... I am sure the acceleration imagined here will be pretty fast, if the animals won't instantly drop dead from a heart attack first! Nice work from Chile :-)

Nice visuals for Sony Microvault Tiny 4GB Memory Card done in Dubai. We all have seen this concept before I guess, big stuff fitting in small packs, But i like the clearness of these ads here and the exaggeration that this campaign shows! By using an egg, a jelly beans pack and a banana, the concept talks about how many and how huge things can easily fit in a tiny-small Sony memory card. The copy still remains the same as it is for all the Sony products: "Like no other".

Bad bikes running wild!

So I suppose this blog must keep going on, along with my thoughts, and along with my good and bad moments too... Alot of friends sent me ads for posting these days, but as you can understand it was impossible to post. I will try to follow up and put up the ones I like most at least.
Here is an ad that has arrived some days ago. I like the funny visual but I don't like very much the retouching here, as you can easily distinguish as fake. I think the lighting of the animals is pretty wrong also, but the idea is nice... an off road bike giving a performance for the "wild life", allowing man and nature to trade places. The copy reads: "Definitely not the same landscape" Nice thinking for a bike ad.

Farewell...

Mr Tony… my Father, my Teacher and my Mentor in life, is no longer with us. That’s the reason the blog was off line these last days, due to my Father’s illness, that lasted only 16 days in the hospital. A Greek hospital run by the famous "Greek National Health System", that doesn’t care at all about people dieing! The doctors in one of the supposed "best" state hospital my Dad was in, have not been paid for more than 5 months. That has a result of a continuous strike situation, with no doctors available in the hospital and my Dad waiting in pain for 10 days with no exam taking place... Who’s fault is it? Are the doctors silent murderers? or is it our government to blame? I will choose the second option and stick with it for the rest of my life, without saying that the doctors are innocent of course! Unfortunately my dad would not have made it anyway. Cancer is still out there killing us all, and my dad gave an unequal battle, since his cells were still in great shape, allowing his illness to grow very fast, although his age wouldn’t normally allow that to happen.

Goodbye Dad, you are the most important person in my life and will always remain that way in my heart. I’m sure you deserve a great place in heaven, as you were the best husband I ever saw and the best caring dad on this planet.

Thank you for teaching me all I know and giving me a strong and steady base to keep on going on this weird world. I will try to do my best 'till we meet again sometime, somewhere…

A Campaign done for an after-shave product, specialized in dark-skinned people in South Africa. One for women and one for men. The ads compare the after shaving effect with insect bites and feeling on your skin, showing a spider under a woman's armpit and ants on a man's face, both meant to be the "hairy" part on the skin... something you don't feel when you use this product ;-) The copy on the pack shot reads: "After shave care for waxed and shaved skin. Fino Soothe". I'd say it's good!

This really made me laugh, and I'm telling you it's not so easy... And when I say Oceania has humor, I really mean it! This billboard ad was made in New Zealand to promote the TV premiere of the "American Psycho" thriller, on TV2 channel. We have seen this face in many ads lately and they had just began to become boring I guess, but in this case I will simply call it a "Great use of President" :-)

Faking it...

Nova is a pay TV provider via satellite, in Greece. This campaign here was launched to promote the covering of the Oscar awards. I believe it's successful because not only it shows directly what it should be using a good sense of humor, but also uses 3 different themes of what customers are really interested in seeing and paying for... politics, sex and sports. The copy written here and translated reads: "A lot of people act. Only one will be awarded. Oscars only on NOVA." I admit I'm not impressed from the art direction, but as I said, the idea shown here is not bad at all.

Well you know what they say... If you don't admit you're alcoholic, then you probably are! This campaign was done in UK for recoverworkaholics.com, which is pretty clear what they do ;-) This issue I believe concerns most of us in the field, as we all know (but hardly admit) working in advertising takes most of your life away! I also know that we all like to call this a "thrilling" job, a work that we mostly enjoy treating it as a "hobby" and I also am sure that most chief creatives won't like what I am talking about here (including mine) ;-) The truth is that important things in our lives just pass away, since we still live in the world of make believe, trying to make others to believe too :-) I know I shouldn't be saying these stuff, but I just can't help it... Our job IS really great (and so is everybody's else no matter what) we all participate in making the world turn, in a very important way I must say, but think a bit after seeing this "copy based" campaign and think twice after seeing the last one! Don't need to say more do I?

If you're among those people that are thinking "what the heck" I'm talking about... seek some help immediately... *What the heck am I really talking about?!*

I like very much the "underground" scenery and the whole visual structure (nice illustration also). A small touch of black humor that makes you smile and think at the same time.

The good "Virus"

ebb&flow™ in London helps Alicia Keys release a so called "virus" for ground breaking charity "Keep A Child Alive". A charity providing urgent response to the Aids pandemic ravaging Africa. The charity's work will offer people in the UK the opportunity to provide lifesaving antiretroviral (ARV) medicine and support services directly to children and families living with HIV & AIDS. The campaign posters were launched on February 28th 2008, at Alicia Keys concert in Birmingham and will be followed by the 02 Arena in London. Using the slogan: "Let's start a virus to end a virus". It prompts people to donate by sending a text message "Alive" to 82540 and also forward the message to others as if it was a "Virus". These posters will be deployed at all venues on Alicia’s UK tour. The whole campaign is also supported by the micro-website: www.keepachildalive.org/uk, with vital information and plenty of downloads to pass on via bluetooth. This viral marketing Idea of engagement through Bluetooth Activism seems pretty cool, making young people mostly, instantly react and spread the word around. Looks like it's gonna work well, as long as there will be a big audience in these concerts ;-)

This ad was made for a local business newspaper in Thailand that launched a website "bangkokbiznews.com". The copy claims here: "Keep up or get left behind". Although the concept looks maybe like a first idea and done for different products in the past (The "ape-man" scenario, that doesn't understand much about new technology and life style), I still think it is well made having a nice sense of humor, worth sharing it :-). A similar concept was running also on TV here, for a new broadband service just a while ago.

The fugitive!

I like the idea in this ad. What it claims is that Gas Station attendants welcome the smart fortwo cdi car, but what it really means is that they will hate you for having one and wait for you right behind the corner ;-) The direction of this ad is nicely made showing the angry gas station guys ready to get you, for not pumping enough gas in your smart car! I guess it must really be a very economic one... but again in this case, it should be the owners of the station getting mad and not the attendants ;-) If you are a smart owner, just send your friend once in a while to fill up a few containers for you... they should be enough to tour Europe ;-)

I was surprised to see a new "print" ad campaign for Apple (Not really used to them). This is a different approach to the "I am a mac" campaign, this time done in Dubai. I like the design that seems to be following the minimal Mac style (although more fresh). A bit aggressive? I don't really know, but it sure is teasing. Can't say if it will work either, but I will totally agree with the copy used... everything goes smooth, easy and "noiseless" (I'm sure all you mac users understand that). I like it, Thanks San for Sharing it :-)

Here is another ad again for a door lock and again done by the same agency... Ongoing in Thailand. Now I know many of you will think "oh no, another maze ad", but before you do think if you have seen something similar for a security system. ;-) After all mazes are made to make our life harder to get through someplace, so probably a door lock ad is the best use of it! If you cannot say easily what the visual is, well it is an aluminum round door handle that is sliced in the middle, letting the maze inside it show, obviously meaning how tough it is going through the doors using Skulthai United locks. You think it is too forced? I don't really think so.

"Expensive. . . for many reasons", is the copy written in this ad made in Thailand. The visual has a door handle-lock with a tag on it showing its price and also how much you save, mentioned on it... What they mean by "save" is not the price from another lock, but all the items you can keep in your home safe, without worrying that someone can steal them! Simple as that but giving the message well.

This campaign was done in Hungary to promote a concert for human rights organized by Amnesty International. The ads show three country leaders that play a very important role for the planet's future and are not considered as very "right" ones for many of the world's population. We see US president George Bush, North Koreas leader Kim Jong II and Robert Mugabe dictator of Zimbabwe. All three of them seem not to pay attention to human rights and for that reason they are shown closing their ears and actually not listening to people's rights! This is a nice ambiguous way to show that the ears are also closed because of the noise made in the concert for the same reason. The copy claims: "Make some noise for human rights".

Need a face lift?

We have seen these sort of concepts about original parts or original services more than often as i have mentioned before. Usually these ads show a mixture of two different things that just don't fit together, but this one here is certainly different. By showing some bad results from people that had plastic surgeries, they are telling us that only the creators of a product know how to fix it properly. Maybe meaning god in these examples (I don't think it means the parents) ;-) The copy reads exactly: "If it's not fixed by the one who made it, it probably won't work. Nobody knows better your Chevrolet than its creators." Good visual work and idea coming from Argentina.

Cook (the) Book

A beautiful creative direction made in Croatia, for Podravka annual report with the title "Well done". This publication looks rather exclusive, expensive and time consuming to get in all this trouble to make it, but I'm sure it pays off well :-) The trick is to bake the small book hidden inside in the oven for 25 minutes at 100 degrees, so the text recipes and pictures show up!.. It's made from some sort of invisible ink that only appears in heat. Directions are given so you won't overcook it ;-). If you really want to know Podravka's secret recipes you have to become a cook yourself for a start... Now if that isn't interesting I don't know what is! Really cool.

Don't fear the reaper...

At first I thought this was the same idea as many others going around lately... trying to show how a perfect world should be... a sort of a "what if" style, but it's not exactly that. This is just somebody's dreams and they all are totally different between them. I sort of like them. The first one (and best in my opinion) is trying to win the reaper on the ring, just to become immortal, the second guy is just wanting to become a rock star, the third guy is dreaming probably of a better world, trying to bring down pollution with a bowling ball... and I guess the last one is every guy's dream... to find all these beautiful ladies on the road asking for a ride ;-) The copy claims: "I have a dream". Nice art and photography for Meltin Pot Jeans coming from Italy.

Golf RSI :-)

Audi ads have got us used to this style of advertising. They often show a symbolic visual of four rings referred to their logo, like the way these four golf balls are in a row, wanting to talk about how fast the car goes, probably like the VW Golf RSI Powered by Audi. The idea here is not so great I guess, but the concept comes out rather nice. The copy claims: "Golf powered by Audi. Audi quattro cup 2008."

A kind of a teaser that shows two different rooms, remade in a totally different but much more beautiful way, without making the owners of them change their habits! The copy reads: "Our free interior architect refines your home. Not your habits. Make an appointment on villaarena.nl." Found it very interesting :-)

Fat boomerang...

This is a nice way to advertise a fit center like Weight Watchers. A guerrilla ad in the shape of a Boomerang looking like a long piece of bacon, to communicate that it's not so easy to get rid of fat... it returns to you if you don't really hit your target ;-) The copy translated in English reads: "Would you prefer it if the fat didn't come back? Weight Watchers. Get it off and keep it off."It looks a bit disgusting as a boomerang, so I guess it might work... if somebody passed it over to me I would sure want to throw it away for good!.. I'd prefer an authentic aboriginal one instead :-)

At last I took a "bite" of that apple!

I could go ahead and write a ton of things about apple, but I guess everybody else does that in the net anyway... So what I will do is tell my story in just a few words. As you might guess I was familiar with macs, since I worked with them for ages in my field, but I never actually owned one as a personal computer (sorry as a "mac"). This year, along with other changes in my life, I finally decided to personally "go mac". I just couldn't wait for my new 24'' iMac to arrive, since I fell in love with it from the moment I first saw it (this reminds me a parody ad i saw in you tube, where a girl is singing to a mac James Blunt's song: "your beautiful") and as my friend San said, it is really amazing how many parodies come out in such a short time. Especially the "I am a mac" ones. The simplicity and the design of the new "i" just made my jaws drop and my heart beat faster. I am already working for some days with it and I can say I am very pleased and amazed. This was the reason that after a short period I couldn't resist to the new "iPhone" also :-) So as you see I have switched to mac for good! All I wanted to say to dear Apple is this: I am very sorry for not choosing you before so please forgive me. Now I know and I AM a believer, as your latest campaign says for both iMac and iPhone... yes, seeing is believing and also is touching :-) Two ads are posted here to show both and also a comparison between iMac and Dell PC, the way apple shows it in their site. Yep it is a big difference in many things, that you probably are all familiar with already so I won't start that war now ;-) Worth mentioning is the packaging design of the new iPhone. I absolutely loved it. The most beautiful "black box" I ever saw! If there is one thing Apple knows good that is design of course, so as a designer myself, they surely won my heart. So a new OS upgrade took place for advert-eyes, and that is Mac OSX Leopard :-)

No need to get "Nailed"

Simple as can be but with a very good idea in it, coming not very far from here... just a couple of blocks around, from our next door country Serbia :-) What we see here is a nail on the wall (quite simple)... now to be sure we won't get mixed up trying to figure out why this is so special, the other half piece of the nail (that we don't see and think it is inside the wall) is shown on the bottom right of the ad, next to the logo. Easily that way, we can come to the conclusion that the nail is not actually "nailed" in the wall, but glued on it! Works fine, giving the impression that although the surface glued is small, it looks very strong, since somebody's gonna hang something heavy on it. Good work Djordje, I like it :-)

Dying for a cigarette!

A social anti-smoking ad for the "world no tobacco day", done in Greece. What is shown here is simply a cemetery with a small empty space between the crosses, communicating that specific area as a non smoking one (as the copy also says). Easy to understand that the rest of the people buried there, definitely were smokers! I sure would like to belong to that piece of empty space... (quitting is in my plans).

How happy is that doggie in the window?

This is again one of those ads known as "a great use of media". This ad was made in France for IAMS pet food products. What looks a bit weird is that it seems it is taking place in the U.K. (at least looks like the streets of London, comparing the double decker and the black cab). A dog tail is placed on the rear wiper of the car (obviously a taxi) and is attached to the dog figure sticker, that is placed on the rear window. Makes it look exactly as it says: "Good for life", since the doggie seems to be very happy. A good thing about this concept, is that England has rather often a rainy weather :-)

Oglivy & Mather in Korea did this campaign for Oral-B. A different view of the "removing food" project, seen very often in advertising. This campaign comes out strong, showing tornados taking away food products, such as Meat, Fish and Vegetables. The connection here with the electric toothbrush is that it also works by spinning around and takes away everything between teeth... exactly like the effect, after Dorothy hit her heels between them in the Wizard of Oz. The copy reads: "Gone with Oral-B"

A smart way to advertise a light product in this ad, done in India for Rohan Mihira. The lamp shown in the ad is not really a lamp, it is just supposed to look as one. What is really shown here is a rounded window, letting the day light come into the bathroom. It is photographed positioned right under the shower, simply to look as if it is a lamp hanging from there! What a nice way to talk about "Homes with natural lighting" as the copy here claims.

Lamode fashion footwear used a bit of "black humor" on this campaign done in Dubai. By showing two dead corpses (one in a fridge and one in a coffin) wearing their shoes, they use the copy: "Last wish", just to make clear that the victims actually wanted to be buried this way with their shoes visible to everyone! Looks like they really are an everlasting fashion item! What a way to advertise a product... I'm scared away :-/

I thought this campaign is brilliant when I saw it... Never seen similar ads for an anti-aging cream, although it really made me wonder why nobody else has done it before! Three ads, showing women (probably in 3 different countries) in their everyday life, that never actually grew up, thanks to Neostrata Anti-Aging cream :-) You can tell they are grown-up by their acts, but not by their looks ofcourse. The greatness of exaggeration :-) very nice and not forced at all.

The TV show Survivor produced by the CBS network, used this campaign to promote what the show is really all about... "Surviving". Three ads, each one containing a different wild animal or insect, shown with a "nutrition facts" label on the lower right corner, probably to communicate the difficult situations the players of this show can be into. These animals can be seen as a sort of a food supply, for those who have no lack of food in order to survive... No other choice left, but to eat something disgusting :-/ Looks like it is easily understood how tough things will be!

An Outdoor poster ad campaign, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet Bel Air 1956 model in the States. This car is a dream car to me and one of my all time favourites. I just couldn't resist posting these here. I remember my next door neighbor having three of them restored in his back yard when I was a kid... all black. I used to call them Batmobiles back then :-) I found the lines very good in these 3 ads, especially the copy in the first one.

A well done campaign for the capital of Victoria state in Australia, Melbourne. A town I really loved also, since I was born and grew up there. The copy seems a bit long, but I believe is well written and worth reading. Although I feel as there could be other things also mentioned about Melbourne that could make someone want to be there (at least the way I remember them). I like the art direction also... it looks the way pure and straight advertising sometimes should look like (lately we seem to forget about that) :-)

A different and interesting ad, again from BBDO in Germany, sent by Toufic, for Mercedes Actros V8 truck. The copy claims "Faster than you think" and shows a Ferrari T-shirt hanging very tight on the string secured by plenty of pegs, so it doesn't fly away when the strong and fast Actros V8 passes by. Teasing a bit the "red horse car" it is trying to tell us how it leaves it behind, or at least that the Ferrari owner is for sure afraid of that truck somehow, not wanting to lose his shirt :-)

BBDO Berlin says for this ad: "A new and unique way to stand out from all the clutter ads that are found on streets and notice boards. we pinned up as many of these around the city, specifically in BIO supermarket notive boards and local parks." They also say that in a week, the clinic was fully booked for months in advance.
I have seen for sure similar ads around (with tear-off tags) but I don't remember seen one for acupuncture that was not glued or taped, but pinned.

A series of three outdoor print ads, released for the Greek "Mini" Ouzo drink made in the Island of "Mytilini" (actually I was there last summer). The isle of Mytilini is very famous for distributing Ouzo. The visuals look indeed very Greek, showing inside them (or through them) scenes from the sea life. The copy claims "Mini Mytilinis. The Beauty is inside it". Looks interesting, although the "inside the bottle themes" have been done before in different ways (with Smirnoff Vodka ones in my top list) :-)

I liked this Spanish campaign for Mercedes alot when I saw it. It is communicating to the right target group I guess. People that buy a Mercedes Benz are usually wealthy, so it is probably normal for some of them to have a personal driver (chauffeur). What this campaign for Mercedes shows, is the drivers being out of a job temporary, waiting for the boss to return. They are left alone in someplace, while the Boss (and owner of the vehicle) has taken the car for a ride by himself. He just can't resist! The art direction and photography is successful, making all that easily clear. The copy claims: "New Mercedes S-Class. Start driving again."

A "global warming" warning campaign coming from Italy, that looks much different from the usual ones that show flooded landscapes. I think the three ads here are strong enough to move you and as weird as they should be to get your attention. The visuals show what the sun can do to the planet and the creatures living on it. Baked pork, fried eggs and ready made pop-corn, straight from the sprout, are some of the results that can probably happen if we don't act fast. Nice concept indeed.

Tastes like rubber?

A Greek tricky ad that looks very ordinary, but after reading the copy, gives you a small surprise. The ad was made for La Pasteria Italian style restaurants and the copy translated to English goes like this: "93% of the people who saw this image, didn't notice that these are not pasta. Because they were looking at the sauce. La Pasteria. We are good, very good in sauces." Now if you look closer you will easily notice that these yellow things shown, that are supposed to be pasta, are nothing more than yellow rubber wrist-bands. Well I think they made their point here :-)

A campaign for Whiskas sent by Harshik from India. The copy says: "Smart cats prefer whiskas". Nice Illustrations showing how two enemies can become good friends, when the matter of food does not get between them. The hunter (cat) is also offering lunch to the all time victims, proving that Whiskas tastes much better than them, with a dedication written on them, saying they will always be friends. ;-) Not bad at all, but I'm just not sure about the use of font... maybe they're also a bit large.

If this guy was just using it, then probably he would remember how he lost his other arm, and think twice before feeding the alligator again! It might be a bit raw, but sure can make you laugh or at least smile :-) This ad is just another proof of how much surprising & intelligent are the ads coming out from that ad school called Miami.

Fast as a bullet

A cool campaign of three, done for Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 in Dominican Republic. This series of ads differ from others we see about off road vehicles. What makes it more special is the fact that it is talking about speed. The copy claims: "From 0 to 90 km/h in 9 seconds." Now you might start thinking what is so special about that speed?... but keep in mind that they are talking about a 4X4 car and the distance it is talking about, is shown to be covered "off-road" as we can pretty much understand from the visuals and the red line trace left from the rear lights. The use of animals in each one of them, is only done to show that the shutter speed of the camera's lens is working fine, but still too slow for this car ;-) Well after considering all that I believe it is well done!

Starting for 2008 is an ad for okcupid.com made in Singapore. The advertised site is a dating or matching site and to promote this the ad shows the well known to all, little and naughty Greek god of love "Eros" or "Erotas" driving a combat chopper, loaded with tons of arrows and flying all around the world searching for new "love" victims. I guess the new year 2008 brings also evolution with it :-) Nice and original concept, although I somehow disagree with the retouching, but that's not so important, cause it has the colors of renaissance art that maybe could have been done by Michael Angelo's grand-grand son (or someone that dreamed to be like him) ;-)

At last I'm back... Sorry for keeping you waiting, but things needed to be done! Things such as long hours sleep, snow-fighting, attempt to ski, eating half of a wild-boar and get drowned in red wine and hot white vanilla flavored chocolate :-) All that on a mountain place all covered by fir-trees, that were all covered by snow... Aaaaah that was a good time! Wish you all were in some beautiful place too, thinking about your next ad ;-) Happy new year to everybody (except my friends in China that will celebrate it somewhere in February I believe), may this year and all the others that will follow bring to you luck, joy, happiness, lots of creativity and ofcourse plenty of health. I'm sharing a photo I made, from that beautiful landscape that made my mind travel away. I must say that I was dragged away from that place by force! I could honestly spend the rest of my life up there... or at least until before the bears woke up :-) So lets get back to work now... Happy 2008.

I don't really like posting ads I made, but since it is Christmas, I wanted to share one with you. This will be the last ad posted here for this year... I will return next year with more. It's for a client of ours, that has a Motorcycle Store wishing "merry Christmas" to his clients, but I don't think the visuals are that bad (looks a bit different from the usuals, since green is missing). The copy translated to English says: "We remain on the top of your choices. For that we thank you and wish you all happy holidays"... So I also wish the same to all you out there... Have a wonderful Xmas time and may 2008 bring you all, whatever it is you desire most and thank you all once again for supporting this blog. Personally I hope for one thing most: "Health" for all the world. I know it sounds as a "cliche", but it is sooooo true no-matter what! All the best to all of you. See you in January 8th.

Esselunga supermarkets in Italy, are running a huge campaign with the line: "Famous in quality". They use vegetable products, appearing as famous persons or themes. First they started mixing vegetables with animals trying to make us figure out what they were (animals or vegetables). I believe a new one is going on now, using food products to show the zodiac star signs. I am posting here just one sample of their campaign, as it is impossible to post them all (there must be more than 50!) I liked the wish they are making, so I am also wishing to you all the same... I liked them a lot, as I usually like there ads almost every time :-) A nice "summer" break in the middle of winter time, for all those that dream of the time they will be on the beach again (By the way, it is summer time in New Zealand now) ;-)

Rendezvous at Sunset

Bifacid is an ant-acid pharmaceutical product for the stomach. This ad is similar to others that Saatchi in Sweden has done before, in the form of simplicity. What we see here is a sunset beach landscape, with a pair of human kind figures holding hands, obviously sharing a romantic moment. These figures are well known, from signs hanging on WC doors (for Male & Female toilet rooms). What is going on is explained on the copy that calims: "For stomachs on holiday." So you're stomachs will be having a great time! Good ad in my opinion.

Red cross in a box

I found this ad's art direction very simple and beautiful. The well known "red-cross" made in a different way, by using an opened red box. What could be better for emphasizing the word "give"? The copy says: "When you give, we give." And I believe by seeing this visual all you really feel like doing is give.

This campaign here tells us that "Nobody can resist", meaning there wine of course. The ads are coming from our neighbour country Turkey and are showing 3 different sort of glasses, (A small one for shots, A whiskey one and a beer one), standing next to bottles of Doluca wines. What they want to say is that people who don't usually drink wine, now do! Clever and well executed.

Isn't this very creative? A guerrilla ad taking place in Dusseldorf, Germany, showing a huge toilet paper roll, with no paper left on it! The copy is claiming: "Germany's favorite laxative." Brilliant idea to advertise a Laxative product, by plainly showing that the paper will just not be enough for you... So just keep that in mind, kiss your troubles goodbye, visit your local super-market store, make sure you got a big supply of paper and only then use a "Ducolax" :-)
I believe the Greenpeace guys, will be upset with this product!

A nice Greek social warning ad about the HIV virus. The copy reads: "It is your sex life. Not a crash test!" And it sounds pretty convincing! The idea is good using a couple of crash test dummies performing (or trying to perform) sex, meaning that's what we become, when we're not having safe sex. Greece is rather a low risk aids country, compared to other European ones, but it is good to keep it that way, since the cases are rising every day that passes by. Nice concept here, looks like it works.

Rockin' around the Christmas tree

These here are in-store Holiday Advertisements for Folkway Music Guitar Store in Canada. All three of them in this campaign are using plectrums (used for playing the guitar) all "dressed-up" as a Christmas tree, Santa's hat and a bell. I like the visuals, although the idea is not really a strong one, it connects what it has to say: A Music Guitar store wishing you a Merry Xmas :-) Maybe Santa will come along with his "Fender" this year to sing us "Jingle bells rock" ;-)

Is it true that this concept feels a bit disturbing? Or is it just me? The idea here is that Fish, Chicken & Duck taste so good that they just can't resist eating themselves! The campaign is done for Thai Rachachuros Seasoning spice, that definitely improves the flavor of your food. Message is delivered quick, but as I said, it's that visuals that scare me. I wouldn't like to get a bite from that fish, while trying to get its bones out of the way :-/

Bend it like Beckham

"Football anywhere" is what this ad's copy claims for Telia, a Swedish mobile network company that now also provides television service to its subscribers, just by sending a text message. The guy in the ad is the new-born baby's father, and is supposed to photograph his wife and kid. Instead of that, he found a good opportunity to watch the game, while he is pretending to take that photo. I don't really blame him, cause if it was "Olympiacos" playing that game, I would probably do the same ;-)

Santa claus "was" coming to town!

A christmas ad for Cultura stores made in France. A visual of Santa is shown under some packs of presents, covering him all up. Probably the store has so many things that Santa just can't handle by himself. Well since he just can't stop shopping, why doesn't he call his elfs for a helping hand? I was very disapointed though to find out that his presents are not hand-made, but bought from Cultura :-( Wish I haven't seen this. I prefered living in ignorance. ;-)

A non-stop driving campaign for Volkswagen Jetta, done in Malaysia. Looks pretty funny, showing the pizza boy, delivering on the way and a mobile car wash in the other :-) The idea is that you're gonna love this car so much, you just can't stop driving it. The copy claims: "The Jetta. Made to keep you driving". So comfortable you won't need to make any stops while traveling ;-) Good concept. Lets you get straight into it.

Leave a light on for me....

This South African ad here also seems weird at first glance, but doesn't take much to hit you. You can easily tell what's going on. Instead of the light house showing its light you see a Maglite torch throwing its light on the light house! Probably from some fisherman or some boat trying to find out where exactly it is, since it doesn't seem to be lit. A great concept to show such a product. Looks like it works good.

A simple but good ad done for Max Factor in Turkey. So simple that makes you think why nobody else has ever done this before. The idea is making the eye-glass holder, that leans on the nose grow longer, just to communicate that your eye-lashes are so long now, that cannot fit behind the glasses anymore... simple as I said and effective. :-)

Stuck in the middle with you!

This is a 2 in 1 combination of a print ad campaign and a guerrilla. I find it very hard to explain cause I feel a bit inconvenient here but I will try to :-/ Although I'm sure the target group it is aiming for, will understand it at once! These spreadsheet ads were published this month in Argentina for Hombre Men's Magazine with both pages glued together. This fact forced the readers to tear them apart, having as a result white "teared" spots left on both pages. You can see this result on the ads posted above. I know it is somehow gross, but it's also a very original idea and after all, having such an experience is something you just can't forget. Personally i would feel disgusted seeing and holding these ads in my hands, but I'm sure it would make me laugh after the first shock. Now, I don't really have to say what this glue used here, is supposed to be, do I? Let's just say that it reminds you your early ages, when you were sneaking into your older brothers bedroom, discovering his porno-mag under his mattress... Don't worry, it's fine, as long as you didn't forget it in the bathroom ;-) The line is nice and it claims: "Hombre magazine. That's us." Sounds good, like "take it or leave it" It's just human nature anyway!

The roof is on fire!

Another self promo ad that is done in Thailand. When I saw this I could swear it has not been retouched at all (that was of course before I read the credits). I thought it was pure photography, showing the real pencil with a hole in its head, were smoke was actually really coming out of it. I never believed I can be tricked like that. Now speaking about the concept, I must say that it doesn't feel as a very original idea, but I like the execution very much and the way it looks, reminding you a still smoking volcano, when all it wants to say is that their pencils are on fire. A good creative symbolism in the matter of speaking.

Oh, Christmas tree...

This is a couple of years old I believe, and probably most of you have already seen it before, but I thought it's good to put it on as I like the way it is made although it is considered a bit "oldie". It's a self-promo ad done by Publicis in Singapore, showing a Christmas tree made out of the pencil's sharpening, wishing Season's Greetings to their clients. It still looks creative though.

With a little help from my friends...

This campaign was made by TBWA in China for adidas, an official supporter for the 2008 Olympic games that will take place in Beijing. The copy translated in English reads: "With a little help from the fans". The ads here show four different Olympic sports supported from the sports-fans and looking like they are giving a helping hand to the athletes. What they really want to say I believe, is that the fans have really got into this, enjoying it as much as if they were taking place in the games themselves. The art direction is very interesting and comes out very artistic, with the combination of photography and illustrations together. It really looks like "China"... specially with all that large population shown in them! But still comes out very delicate, with the use of this technique and choice of colours.

Xmas is all around...

Have you seen the 2003 movie "Love actually"?... It's definitely among my Christmas favourites, with "It's a wonderful life" done in 1946 by Frank Capra on the top of my list.
I loved the story going on in Love actually (the characters are very well done) along with its music. If you've seen it you must remember the song "Christmas is all around" sang by Bill Nighy, that was playing the character of Billy Mack, an old "looser" punk-rock singer, that readjusted the "Love is all around" song, first sang by the Troggs and later by Wet-wet-wet. Billy mack tried to make a big hit out of this song, converting it into a Xmas version :-)
So, If you haven't, go find it in your nearest local DVD store. I'm sure you'll love it too. It's a "must see" movie for these days. Advert eyes will try to catch up with the spirit of these days too. Starting from next week, I'll be posting up some Xmas season's ads, just to celebrate and remind us all that it's always good to feel as a kid once in a while ;-)
(I always do by the way).
